Overview and Eligibility Criteria for All Awards

 

The following information is provided to support the nomination process for the 2023 Queensland Sport Awards and Hall of Fame Induction event, which will be held on Thursday November 30 a the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

 

  • Nominations will be accepted for achievements in the period from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023 except for the Service to Sport Awards which are designed to reflect sustained contribution and positive impact over a longer period.

 

  • Nominations may be submitted by Queensland State Sporting Organisations (SSOs) and their affiliates, and by QSport Associate Members.

 

  • To ensure the nominations for each Award capture the breadth of outstanding achievement in the category, the QSport CEO (who is the Secretary of each Award Selection Committee) may submit additional nominations to the relevant Committee(s).

 

  • Nominations are to be submitted via the Queensland Sport Awards nomination portal, which can be accessed here

 

  • If you are unable to submit a nomination via the online portal, please contact the QSport office (admin@qsport.org.au) for a PDF nomination form.

 

  • Nominations will only be accepted via one of these two submission processes.

 

  • If you are submitting two (2) or more nominations, please submit each nomination on a separate form.

 

  • Please ensure the information submitted in the nomination addressed the pertinent factors set out for each Award category (see below).

 

  • Nominations for Junior Sport Star of the Year and Junior Sport Team of the Year Awards are to be for individuals and teams under 18 years of age during the Awards period. Nominations for the Junior Sport Star of the Year Award are to are include the nominee’s date of birth, and nominations for Junior Sport Team of the Year Award are to include the dates of birth of the oldest and youngest member of the nominated team.

 

  • QSport Directors and staff are ineligible for nomination.

 

  • Nominations for each Award are considered by one of Selection Committees appointed by the QSport Board, each of which determines the finalists and winners in the categories they are tasked with evaluating.

 

  • Nominations will be stored by QSport for two years. Contact details provided as part of each nomination will be used to contact nominator for additional information if/as required and to correspond with nominees where appropriate (e.g. advising their selection as a finalist in an Award category).

 

  • Nominees will be advised in writing if they have been selected by the relevant Committee as a finalist for an Award. Information will be forwarded to the email address supplied on the nomination form.

 

Nominations close at 5.00pm AEST on FRIDAY OCTOBER 6, 2023.

Preparing and Completing Your Nomination

 

The following summary will assist you to submit the appropriate information as part of your nomination.

 

Please note: all questions on the Nomination Form must be answered.

 

CATEGORY NOMINATED

Select the category for which the nomination is being submitted. A separate form is to be submitted for each nomination.

NOMINEE

Insert the full title of the person, team or event that is being nominated.

NOMINEE’S REPRESENTATIVE

Insert the name of the person to whom correspondence about the nomination should be addressed if different from the name of the person submitting the initial nomination. For example, if the nomination is for an event, the nominee’s representative might be the event organiser or if nominating a team, it may be the coach or captain of the team.

ADDRESS

Insert the email address to which correspondence from QSport is to be sent advising the nominated individual(s) or organisation of their nomination, selection as a finalist, invitation to the Awards etc.

NAME OF NOMINATOR

Insert the name of the ‘nominator’ (i.e. the person submitting the nomination) who must have the authority to submit a nomination on behalf of the State Sporting Organisation, SSO affiliate or QSport Associate Member.

NOMINATOR’S ROLE

Insert the nominator’s role within the State Sporting Organisation, SSO affiliate or QSport Associate Member.

NOMINATOR’S ORGANISATION

Insert the name of the State Sporting Organisation, SSO affiliate or QSport Associate Member..

NOMINATOR’S PHONE

Insert the daytime contact phone number of the nominator so that they may be contacted by QSport if there are any questions regarding the nomination.

NOMINATOR’S EMAIL

Insert the email of the nominator so that they may be contacted by QSport if there are any questions regarding the nomination.

DOES THIS NOMINATION HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE RELEVANT STATE SPORTING ORGANISATION?

Indicate YES or NO by ticking the appropriate response.

DETAILS OF NOMINEES ACHIEVEMENTS

Detail the nominee’s achievements during the Award period (1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023, except for Service to Sport Awards which reflect sustained contribution and positive impact over a longer period) including a clear and concise statement that outlines why the nominee’s achievements are so significant and therefore why they should win the Award for which they are nominated.

Information About Each Award Category

 

Service to Sport

The Queensland Service to Sport Award recipients will be individuals who have demonstrated sustained contribution and positive impact over many years. The nominee may be an employed administrator, a volunteer, a competitor, a coach, an official or anyone whose sustained contribution and positive impact over a long period distinguishes the nominee from their peers.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • level of contribution to sport
  • level of contribution to industry
  • achievement over the period
  • significance of achievement

 

Sport Administrator of the Year

The Queensland Sport Administrator of the Year will be an individual who has made a significant contribution to their sport or the sport industry as a whole during the period. The nominee’s contributions over the period will have benefitted sport in Queensland and at a standard of excellence that set them apart from their peers, thus warranting their recognition with this Award.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • type and standard of contributions to sport over the period
  • type and standard of contributions to industry over the period
  • achievements over the period
  • significance of achievements over the period

Sport Volunteer of the Year

The Queensland Sport Volunteer of the Year will be an individual who contributes to sport in Queensland voluntarily. The recipient of this Award may be an administrator, coach, official, etc as long as they receive no remuneration (apart from reimbursement for expenses incurred) in respect of their duties.

 

The nominee’s contributions and achievements as a volunteer over the period will be of a standard of excellence that set them apart from their peers, thus warranting their recognition with this Award.

 

Note: This Award applies to achievements over the one (1) year period with the number of years of service of the nominee overall not considered in the judging of this category. Individuals whose sport volunteering contributions and achievements over a number of years warrant consideration should be nominated for the Service to Sport Award.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • type and standard of contributions to sport as a volunteer over the period
  • type and standard of contributions to industry as a volunteer over the period
  • achievements over the period
  • significance of achievements over the period

 

Sport Event of the Year

The Queensland Sport Event of the Year will be an event recognised as having achieved a standard of excellence greater than that of other sporting events during the period. 

Events during the period may involve local, regional, State, national or international competitors, include either a single or multiple sports and have been contested by individuals or teams (either  professionals or amateurs). The event will stand apart on the basis of its high standard of organisation, its successful delivery and positive impacts.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • level and standard of the event (i.e. local, regional, state, national or international)
  • type and/or mix of competitors (i.e. professional and/or amateur; state, national and/or international athletes etc).
  • number of competitors, officials, volunteers, spectators etc
  • single or multi- sport event
  • significance of event and its positive impacts

 

 

Sport Official of the Year

The Queensland Sport Official of the Year will be an individual who has attained a level of excellence in the field of officiating i.e. refereeing, umpiring, judging etc. The nominee’s contributions and achievements as a sport official over the period will be of a standard of excellence that set them apart from their peers, thus warranting their recognition with this Award.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • level and standard of officiating (i.e. regional, state, national or international competition)
  • achievements over the period
  • significance of achievements over the period

 

Sport Coach of the Year

The Queensland Sport Coach of the Year will be an individual who has made a significant contribution to the achievements of a person(s) or team that they have coached and/or who has made a significant contribution to increasing the coach workforce and/or standard of coaching in the sport with which they have been associated.

The nominee’s contributions and achievements as a sport coach over the period will be of a standard of excellence that set them apart from their peers, thus warranting their recognition with this Award.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • achievements of person(s) or team that they have coached
  • level and standard of coaching (i.e. regional, state, national or international)
  • achievements over the period
  • significance of achievements over the period

 

 

 

 

Junior Sport Team of the Year

The Queensland Junior Sport Team of the Year will be a team of two or more participants aged under 18 years during the period that has attained a level of excellence and/or whose performance(s) sets the team apart from its peers, thus warranting the team’s recognition with this Award. 

Please ensure the information that is submitted includes the date of birth of the youngest and oldest member of the nominated team.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • type and standard of competition (i.e. regional, state, national or international; competing in junior and/or open age competition)
  • achievements over the period
  • significance of achievements over the period

 

Sport Team of the Year

The Queensland Sport Team of the Year will be a team of two or more participants that that has attained a level of excellence and/or whose performance(s) sets the team apart from its peers during the period, thus warranting the team’s recognition with this Award.  

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • type and standard of competition (i.e. regional, state, national or international competition)
  • achievements over the period
  • significance of achievements over the period

 

Junior Sport Star of the Year

The Queensland Junior Sport Star of the Year will be an individual aged under 18 years during the period who has attained a level of excellence and/or whose performance(s) set them apart from their peers, thus warranting their recognition with this Award.

Please include the nominee’s date of birth in the information submitted.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • type and standard of competition (i.e. regional, state, national or international; competing in junior and/or open age competition)
  • category of competitor (i.e. individual competitor or member of a team)
  • achievements over the period
  • significance of achievements over the period

 

 

Athlete with a Disability of the Year

The Queensland Sport Athlete with a Disability of the Year will be an individual who holds a recognised classification and who has attained a level of excellence and/or whose performance(s) set them apart from their peers during the period, thus warranting their recognition with this Award.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • type and standard of competition (i.e. regional, state, national or international; competing in junior and/or open age competition)
  • category of competitor (i.e. individual competitor or member of a team)
  • achievements over the period
  • significance of achievements over the period

 

Sport Star of the Year

The Queensland Sport Star of the Year will be an individual who has attained a level of excellence and/or whose performance(s) set them apart from their peers during the period, thus warranting their recognition with this Award.

Factors to consider in completing nominations include:

  • type and standard of competition (i.e. regional, state, national and/or international)
  • category of competitor (i.e. individual competitor or member of a team)
  • achievements over the period
  • significance of achievements over the period.
