At 17 most young girls are still at school, contemplating a job or further study, thinking about getting a driver's license and an I.D. which say they can into pubs and nightclubs, or other teenage things.
Not Angie Lambert. She was captain of the Australian Under 21 hockey team before touring Argentina with the Hockeyroos as she built one of the great international careers.
The much-loved girl from Toowoomba started playing at 12 and was a Queensland representative from 13, and an Olympic gold medallist in Sydney 2000 - the second-youngest in her sport in the world.
She was awarded an OAM and named 2001 internation Hockey junior player of the year at 20, was a Commonwealth Games gold medallist in Melbourne and World All-Star at 25, and when she retired at 27 in 2008 was a triple Olympian and 10-year 229-game Hockeyroo, 10th all-time, with gold, silver and bronze medals from seven Champions Trophy appearances, two World Cups and much more.
Formerly Angie Skirving, she is a life-time hockey person and married Australian Kookaburras goalkeeper Stehen Lambert. A mother of two, a teacher and still giving back to her sport through coaching, Angies is a Hockey Queensland Hall of Famer and Team of the Decade choice 1996-2005 and 2006-2015.
Now Toowoomba's sixth member of the Queensland Sport Hall of Fame, joining teammate Nikki Hudson, Glynnis Nunn, Tim Horan, Jason Little and John McDonald.
