Queensland Paralympic icon Darren Thrupp is officially a Hall of Famer.

Thrupp was inducted into the Queensland Hall of Fame on 21 November at the annual QSport Awards, held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The athletics trailblazer said he was humbled when he received the news that he would be elevated to Hall of Famer status.

“I never thought that I would be up here (receiving this honour) with all the champion athletes that have been inducted before me,” said Thrupp.

“But when I got the email, I was over the moon.”

Thrupp represented Australia at an astonishing six consecutive Paralympic Games - beginning at the1988 Soul Paralympics and concluding at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

Over his two decade long Paralympic career, Thrupp amassed six gold and three bronze medals.

The Wallumbilla cult hero carved his name into Australian Paralympic history as a formidable long jumper and a principal member of numerous gold medal winning 4x100M and 4x400M relay teams.

The now athletics coach and trainer, who sustained irreparable brain damage from a two vehicle car crash in 1985, says he has never let his disability hold him back and he encourages others to do the same.

“Now I have received this award, hopefully it inspires others with a disability to get out there and have a go,” said Thrupp.

“I aim to be a role model for other people with a disability and hopefully get them to see that anything is possible.”

The Order of Australia Medalist and 1997 Darling Downs Sportsman of the Year is now officially a Queensland Hall of Famer.

Congratulations Darren.
