Personal Excellence Coordinator

The Gold Coast SUNS are on a journey to build a reputation as the best club in the country at integrating our Male and Female athlete’s right from Academy level through to our elite teams. We’re seeking a passionate, full-time Personal Excellence Coordinator who will be responsible for driving the implementation and integration of an elite player excellence program.

The program will encapsulate all aspects of a player’s lifestyle and have a clear focus on ensuring that each player develops the tools required to develop into healthy, aware and balanced young people. This particular role will focus on the AFLW and Female & Male Academy Programs and support the Personal Excellence Team across male programs as required.

The Personal Excellence Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Developing AFLW and GC SUNS Academy objectives as part of the overall Personal Excellence strategy
  • Integrating the Player Excellence program as a critical pillar of the broader Football Program
  • Implementing an Individualised Action Planning process across the AFLW and Academy playing groups as the basis for all program delivery
  • Delivering and managing contemporary programs that are based on sound research, thoughtful consideration and are authentically delivered
  • Providing support and advice to AFLW & Academy players on lifestyle, character, behavior and leadership development
  • Proactively monitoring all aspects of AFLW & Academy players off field development
  • Creating an inclusive environment for players to work in, that values diversity and encourages trust and growth in all players
  • Driving a culture with a commitment to strong relationships and deep connection and care between staff, players and families
  • Driving leadership programs that build awareness, understanding and capability within the playing groups
  • Maintaining trusting relationships with players and key stakeholders
  • Assuming match day role for games as required

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in sports administration, teaching, psychology or similar (desirable)
  • 3+ years’ experience working with elite athletes and families
  • Outstanding relationship building skills, and the ability to leverage these to achieve broader organizational outcomes
  • Highly developed leadership capability
  • Strong self-awareness and awareness of others (emotional intelligence)
  • A portfolio of relevant life experiences, specifically an understanding and empathy for the unique environments that high-performance athletes operate in
  • Demonstrated ability to be discreet and work with confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong administrative, coordination, organisation and time management skills
  • Reliability and ability to work autonomously, and maintain accountability to organisational goals and targets
  • The ability to receive and respond to feedback, be willing to learn and embrace change, and commit to continuous improvement of both self and the business

Athletic Performance Coach

The Gold Coast SUNS AFL Women’s (AFLW) program is looking to fill a high-performance role providing elite physical preparation for the athletes involved in the AFLW program. This part-time, contracted role for the AFLW Program will consist of changing hours per week, dependent on the phase of the season.

The Athletic Performance Coach will be responsible for:

  • Leading the AFLW high performance program which includes strength & conditioning, program planning and delivery (with a focus on training dosage both individually & collectively)
  • Overseeing all testing including physiological, training and performance based
  • Developing training programs based on current research and practice in elite female sport
  • Ensuring accurate and comprehensive files of player training records is entered into relevant club databases in a timely manner
  • Assisting with data collection and recording of relevant Sport Science data, i.e. GPS
  • Facilitate the wellness monitoring of players
  • High performance support (warm-up, recovery, GPS, nutrition, hydration) at trainings and match days
  • Coordinating and implementing post-match recovery sessions
  • Working collaboratively with other departments and medical providers to provide the club with the most available players  (preparation & rehabilitation)
  • Facilitating rehabilitation support for listed players under guidance from the Physiotherapist – AFLW Lead
  • Developing relationships with venue and facility stakeholders

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Movement or Sports Science;
  • Experience in a similar role working in a high-pressure elite sporting environment; 
  • A strong personal brand, including ability to display integrity and a commitment to professionalism and accountability;
  • An understanding of the AFL/AFLW player rules and regulations;
  • A team focus and the ability to contribute to team goals;
  • Flexible and adaptable with the ability to work outside of business hours;
  • A commitment to learning & development – and a willingness to assist build a continuous improvement culture.

Football Operations Assistant

The Gold Coast SUNS are on a journey to build a reputation as the best club in the country at integrating our Male and Female athlete’s right from Academy level through to our elite teams.

To ensure our players and coaches are ready to tackle the season head on, we are looking for an experienced, full-time Football Operations Assistant to administer and coordinate a range of administrative processes and tasks enabling the football staff to work in an effective environment.

The Football Operations Assistant also plays an integral role in fostering relationships across the business to ensure a united, one-club approach is maintained. This role reports to the Talent Academy Manager and Head of Women’s Football with strong support and direction given by the Football Operations Manager. 

The Football Operations Assistant will be responsible for:

  • The delivery of day to day Football Operations for the Academy squads and AFLW program;
  • Developing procedures and structures with relevant coaches and staff to ensure smooth operation of timetable;
  • Overseeing operational issues in relation to training and scheduling, including travel bookings;
  • Managing the Football Department volunteers and match day staff;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders i.e. venues, travel agents, sponsors, local and NQ clubs, player partners & families;
  • Managing the communication and reporting processes within the football department;
  • Coordinating with the Community department all requests for player appearances; and
  • Coordinating relevant Academy & AFLW events as required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 1-2 years administrative experience in a high-pressure sporting environment;
  • Current knowledge of, and experience in AFL or Similar sport – preferably experience in working with young female athletes;
  • A strong personal brand, including ability to display integrity and a commitment to professionalism and accountability;
  • A commitment to learning and development- willingness to assist and build a continuous improvement culture;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times;
  • An understanding of the AFL/AFLW player rules and regulations;
  • High level of oral and written communication skills and ability to influence and negotiate with others to achieve priorities;
  • Flexibility and responsive to change in direction, priorities, as required; and
  • Well presented with the ability to represent GCFC to key stakeholders.
