“Slacky” was seemingly nearing the end of his international rugby union career when Wallaby coach Alan Jones surprised many by replacing Mark Ella and handing him the captaincy.
From that moment Slack made his mark in history, leading the Wallabies to the 1984 Grand Slam and 1986 Bledisloe Cup. A skilful centre in 239 Tests.
