Mr Ashley Cooper AO

Winner of four grand slam singles titles, he ranks among Australia’s all-time great players and was world No.1 in the late 1950s. He won the Australian Open in 1957-58 after being Runner-Up at Wimbledon and the US Open in 1957.

In 1958 was one of only nine players in history to win three legs of the Grand Slam when he captured the Australian, Wimbledon and US crowns - and was a five-set semi-final loser at the French Open.

He won two French Open doubles titles with Mal Anderson (1957) and Neale Fraser (1958) to complete his all-surface assault, plus a US doubles with Fraser (1957). A two-time member of the Australian Davis Cup, he has been a wonderful supporter of tennis at all levels for 40 years since his retirement from international competition, establishing the ‘Coops’ centre to play a key role in the development of Pat Rafter, among other stars.

A member of the Australian and International Tennis Hall of Fame, and the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
