A sports media icon in Queensland who got into the newspaper game when he knocked on the door of the Telegraph and was given a job as a copy boy. He worked for 40 years at the paper, covering the 1956 Olympics before becoming assistant sports editor in 1962 and sports editor in 1967. Fiercely parochial of anything to do with Queensland sport, he retired in 1988 when the paper closed.
John is a member of the Queensland Australian Football Hall of Fame.
