One of Australian racing’s great jockeys, he rode more than 2000 city winners in a career that spanned 50 years from the 1940s. Originally from Boonah, he was a self-confessed scallywag who served five and a half years of a 10-year suspension for pulling the leg of a rival jockey in the 1961 AJC Derby at Randwick. He won the 1958 Melbourne Cup on Baystone.
