A member of Australian cricket’s Team of the 20th Century, he was an express bowler in the classic style who played 61 Tests from 1946-60 and was regarded as one of the best of his era.
He formed a lethal opening combination with Keith Miller which led the ‘Invincibles’ attack on the 1948 England tour – arguably the greatest team of all-time. He captured 228 Test wickets at 23.0 and was a capable lower-order batsman. A member of the Australian Cricket and Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
