So dominant was Hendy on the professional Ironman circuit in the early '90s that it appeared he needed to do little more than show up to win the event. Of course, it took a lot more than that, with Hendy regarded as Australia’s fittest athlete at his peak.
From 1989 through to the end of 1995, Hendy won four Uncle Tobys Series – three straight – plus a second and third placing. He was four times world ironman champion, six times national champion and three times world Malibu champ. He was also national kayak champion and just missed Olympic selection.
