Ferguson was recognised as one of the finest rowers in the world in the mid-1980’s when she took the lightweight sculls at the 1985 world championships in Belgium becoming Australia’s first female world champion rower. She followed up in 1986 winning gold at the Commonwealth Games.
Ferguson continued to compete throughout the 90s and became the only mother to have rowed on a national team, winning an open national rowing title at the age of 45.
