The Dutch-born sprint kayak paddler was a four-time Olympian and dual Olympic medallist, competing in Seoul (1988) for her native Holland and in Barcelona (1992), Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000) for Australia. An international competitor for 20 years from the early 1980s, she followed her bronze medal for Germany in the women’s K2 500 in Seoul when she joined German-born Katrin Borchert to win a bronze medal for Australia in the same event in Atlanta. The pair also teamed to win the K2 500 and K2 1000 world titles in 1998, and the K2 1000 in 1999, before they placed sixth in the K2 500 in Sydney. Wood, born Annemarie Cox, won a total of eight world championship medals, including her three gold with Borchert, four silver and one bronze.
