The greatest moment in the career of Australian softball queen Lester came on the night Kieren Perkins and Susie O’Neill won gold in Atlanta. While most Australians were glued to their TVs watching the action at the pool, American sets were tuned to the upset of the century, with the Australian softballers beating the “unbeatable” Americans.
It was a performance that ultimately won Australia the bronze medal and capped Lester’s 20-year international career – the last 15 as captain.
