The German-born sprint kayak paddler was a three-time Olympian and triple Olympic medallist. She represented Germany in Barcelona (1992), and after emigrating to Australia in 1994 she represented her adopted country in Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000).
An international competitor from the late 1980s until 2001, she won a silver for Germany in the K4 500 in ’92, joined Dutch-born Anna Wood to win a bronze medal for Australia in the K2 500 in Atlanta, and paddled solo for bronze in the K1 500 in Sydney, where she and Borchert finished sixth in the K2 500.
She won a total of 20 world championship medals, including nine gold medals for four different countries – three for East Germany (1989), one for West Germany (1990), two for Germany (1991-93) and three in partnership with Wood for Australia (1994-2001) - K2 500 and K2 1000 in 1998 and K2 1000 in 1999.
