The first Queenslander to win an Olympic Gold Medal, Norma Croker competed in the 200m sprints at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and came 4th in that event, later winning the Gold Medal in the 4x100m relay together with Shirley Strickland, Fleur Mellor and Betty Cuthbert.

Norma had an agreement with her boyfriend Lloyd Fleming, that they would get married if she won her heat at the Australian Championships, and qualified for the Melbourne Olympics. She was up against triple world record holder Marlene Mathews in this heat and both she and Lloyd were overjoyed and surprised when Norma beat Marlene. They were married in February, 1957.

At the Rome 1960 Olympics Croker, now competing as Norma Fleming, was eliminated in the preliminary rounds of the 200m and the relay and finished fifteenth in the long jump.

Norma was educated at Brisbane State High School.
