The leading retailer of sporting and leisure equipment, apparel and footwear in Australia will join other major partners and support sponsors of the annual Queensland Sport Awards on Wednesday, 3 November at the Gabba for the announcement of the five contenders for the rebel Queensland Junior Sport Team of the Year Award for 2021.

Rebel recently signed up with QSport, the State's peak body for sport which conducts the annual program of recognition of Queensland's top sporting achievers, at the opening of rebel's new Everton Park store in inner northern Brisbane in late August and joins longstanding QSport major partners in the Queensland Governent, The Courier-Mail, Channel Seven, Konica Minolta and the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre where the Awards are announced and presented each year.

The rebel Queensland Junior Sport Team of the Year Award is one of ten for which finalists will be named by the Awards program coordinator Peter Cummiskey, CEO of QSport which is presenting the Awards once again this year after their cancellation last year due to Covid impacts on 2020 winter sporting competitions.

With a genuine passion for grassroots sport and engagement, rebel is looking forward to championing sport participation in local communities across Queensland and celebrating a junior sport team that has demonstrated exceptional sporting performance during the year.

rebel Retail State Manager for Queensland, Steve Lacey, who will attend the announcement says, "Our vision is to inspire all Queenslanders to chase their sporting dreams and passions. It's been exciting to announce this partnership in conjunction with the recent opening of our new Everton Park Experience store in Brisbane, which brings an Australian-first sporting customer experience to the community. We hope this award inspires young Queenslanders to achieve their sporting dreams and passion."

"Sport is calling and together, rebel and QSport will champion sport participation in local communities right across Queensland."

"Sponsoring the Queensland Junior Sport Team of the Year Award at the annual Queensland Sport Awards in November reflects our join commitment to encouraging youngsters to emulate their heroes, particularly after the efforts of our Queensland Olympians and Paralympians."

rebel has more than 155 stores across Australia, with over 6,000 employees. In Queensland, rebel has 39 stores and is a proud partner of national sporting competitions such as the AFL, AFLW, Football Australia and the Matildas as well as support other state-based partnerships with Sport NSW, Sport SA, Vicsport and Sport West, the last of these having received rebel support for the WA Junior Sport Star of the Year last month.

"rebel's 'Sport is Calling' message resonates well in these more difficult times with State sports federations and member sporting bodies and has never been more apt when Queenslanders of all ages can benefit via sport and active recreation, particularly assisting stem mental health deterioration in many instances as a result of Covid." says Peter Cummiskey, producer of the Awards Program who is also Secretary of Community Sport Australia.
