QSport, the Queensland sports collective of 70 of the 80 plus State Sporting Organisations (SSOs) in Queensland, has received advice that the first of four sport sector Industry Plans covering field team sports for the resumption of sporting activity under Stage 2 easing of COVID-19 restrictions has been signed off by the State's Chief Health Officer.

Stage 2 easing brought forward to midday Monday allowed for gatherings of up to 20 people engage in non-contact indoor and outdoor community sport activity and also in pools indoor and outdoor and community sports clubs.

It also enabled more than 20, subject to approval of COVID SAFE Industry Plans, which were developed last week by QSport's four groups covering Aquatic, Field Team, Indoor and Outdoor Sports covering the 70 QSport member SSOs.

QSport CEO Peter Cimmiskey said the quick detailed reponse by the QSport Sport Groups and their members was critical in obtaining approval that will enable those clubs accessing multiple playing spaces in venues to optimise the opportunity for their club participants to resume involvement once checklist requirements were organised by club officials.

"Activity is expected to take the form of training in preparation for the start of competitions when further easing of COVID-19 restrictions kicks in next month in Stage 3."

"With sport suspended since mid to late March, many sportspeople will be keen to resume and we can expect to see people back in many sporting venues in the weeks ahead, enjoying the benefits that community sport provides."

"What QSport and its 70 member SSOs want to see is clubs doing the right thing by way of proper preparation and then implementation during June that optimises the chances of moving without any problems into Stage 3 and regular competition."

"SSOs will be providing guidelines and other materials to assist and we're all hopeful that it all works out satisfactorily for all concerned."

Approved Industry Plans for sport will appear on the State's COVID-19 website and the QSport website.
