QSport Announces CEO Transition and Launches Search for Next Strategic Leader

QSport, the peak body representing Queensland’s vibrant sport industry, announces that Chief Executive Officer Tim Klar will conclude his tenure on Friday, September 26, after two and a half years of impactful leadership.

Tim stepped into the CEO role during a period of major transition and increasing excitement around Queensland’s journey to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond. His leadership has been marked by a strong focus on responding to member needs, strengthening engagement with government, and driving collaborative initiatives designed to shape the future of sport across the state.

Reflecting on his time at QSport, Tim Klar shared: “It has been a privilege to lead the industry’s peak body, especially as we advance towards Brisbane 2032 and I acknowledge the central role QSport’s Members will continue to play at all levels, from grassroots through to Games preparation, delivery and legacy.

“I am grateful to the QSport Board for this opportunity, to the staff and volunteers who power QSport’s work and impact, and to the people across Queensland who have shared their insights and collaborated on important initiatives.

“The next CEO will have the opportunity to work with the Board, staff, QSport’s Members and our partners to double down on Uniting, Activating and Championing the industry, and expanding sport’s positive impacts on Queenslanders’ health, success, and sense of community.”

As part of QSport’s ongoing commitment to best practice governance, the Board will ensure strong continuity of operations throughout this transition, including interim arrangements that maintain momentum across priority projects and member support. This approach reflects QSport’s values of innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity, ensuring our members and partners remain at the centre of all we do.

QSport now invites applications for the next Chief Executive Officer, someone who can champion our mission and unite the sector as Queensland prepares for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The role calls for a strategic executive with proven capabilities in governance, commercialisation, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy for member interests, with a keen focus on driving gender equity, expanding participation pathways, and building lasting sector-wide impact aligned with national partners across government, corporate and community domains.

The appointed CEO will:

  • Lead QSport’s efforts to unite, activate and inspire more than 70 SSOs and SSODs, strengthening Queensland’s sporting legacy
  • Drive commercial and digital innovation to maximise investment and opportunity across the sector
  • Champion inclusive and impactful programs, ensuring sport remains a vital contributor to the health, wellbeing, and success of Queensland communities
  • Promote strong partnerships and advocacy in the leadup to Brisbane 2032, creating new pathways for industry growth and community benefit, and
  • Oversee robust governance, transparent financial management, and a future-focused operating model, positioning QSport as a national leader during this era of transformation.
