QSport recently held its Annual General Meeting, marking an important period of leadership transition while reinforcing continuity and strong governance.

The organisation formally acknowledged and thanked outgoing Chair Ben Callard (Australian Sailing) for his eight years of voluntary service to QSport and its members. Ben’s tenure was defined by steady, principled leadership, particularly changes in executive leadership, and during times of significant uncertainty, including the COVID‑19 pandemic.

QSport also recognised outgoing Independent Director Amanda Fielding (Girlsport Collective) for her valued contribution the past six years. Amanda’s deep industry insight, commercial partnership leads and commitment to equity and innovation played an important role in shaping QSport’s strategic direction.

“Ben and Amanda have both left an enduring legacy on QSport,” said Alison Lyons, Chair of QSport.
“Their leadership, integrity and commitment have strengthened our organisation and helped position QSport for the future.”

Appointment of Chair and Deputy Chair

Following the AGM, QSport is pleased to announce the appointment of Alison Lyons as Chair, after previously serving as Deputy Chair. Alison brings extensive executive leadership experience across sport governance, government partnerships and facility strategy.

“It is a privilege to step into the role of Chair at a time of opportunity for Queensland sport,” said Ms Lyons.
“I look forward to building on the strong foundations established by the Board and continuing our advocacy for a thriving sport sector.”

Adam Vanzanten, General Manager – Community Rugby League at Queensland Rugby League, has been elected Deputy Chair, continuing his leadership contribution to the Board

Board Re‑elections and Appointments

QSport confirms the re‑election of:

• Alison Lyons, AFL Venue & Government Partnerships Manager – QLD, as Field Team Sport Director
• Chris Davis, CEO, Little Athletics Queensland, as Outdoor Sport Group Director

The Board also welcomes:

• Annie Watson, General Manager at Australian Sailing, as Aquatic Sport Group Director
• Dion Collins (Ross Planning) as Independent Director

Continuing Directors include:

• Adam Vanzanten, General Director and Deputy Chair, Queensland Rugby League
• Nicole Comerford, Independent Director and Treasurer, Inner Sanctum Sport Management
• Gail Torrens, Indoor Sport Group Director, CEO, Tenpin Bowling Association of Queensland

The QSport Board looks forward to launching a new draft constitution and draft strategy for member consultation in the coming weeks.
