On Tuesday, March 25, QSport attended a pivotal event for Brisbane’s future, as Queensland Premier David Crisafulli revealed the long-awaited 2032 Delivery Plan for the venues that will host the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This announcement marked a significant milestone in the city’s preparations for the Games, and the future of sport in Queensland.

The Premier’s announcement provided clarity on how the Games will transform infrastructure across each host city and region, creating world-class venues and supporting infrastructure that will not only host the Olympics and Paralympics but also serve the local community and sporting organisations long after the Games conclude.

This is a critical priority for QSport, as we continue to advocate for increased investment in and access to the places, people and programs that underpin sports participation at all levels and ensure that the benefits of the Games are felt by the entire state. The insights shared at this event reinforced the importance of long-term planning and sustainable development for the state’s sporting future.

As highlighted in QSport’s 2024 State Election Brief, we believe that the Brisbane 2032 Games offer a unique opportunity to drive positive changes in how sport is delivered and the benefits it delivers across Queensland. From enhancing facilities to expanding opportunities for participation, the Games have the potential to leave a legacy that will benefit current and future generations of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and sports fans alike.

QSport CEO Tim Klar highlighted the importance of the Delivery Plan’s announcement: “We now have greater clarity about how the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games can augment the existing capacity and positive impacts of sport across the state. We’re very pleased to see the central role that community sport plays in proposed Games delivery and legacy benefits and we’re ready to get to work on supporting the uplift that initiatives like the Queensland Government’s ‘Games On!’ funding will deliver.”

Positive legacies of the 2032 Games begin well in advance of the Olympic Opening Ceremony and rallying our members and stakeholders to the collective effort required to realise these impacts remains a core focus of our work.”

As the pace of progress towards the Brisbane 2032 Games increases, QSport will continue to promote the needs of the state’s sporting industry so that investment and partnerships can underpin enduring benefits for communities state-wide. Our commitment to collaboration between government, industry, and sport is focused on seeing Queensland continued rise as a global hub for sport and innovation in the lead-up to and well beyond 2032.
