The 12-month transition period for Queensland’s updated blue card requirements ends on the 20th of September 2026.
*This transition period only applies to people who are already working in the sector before 20th of September 2025.
From this date, workers in amusement parks, fairs and shows who provide services or activities directed mainly towards children must hold a valid blue card.
Roles that will require blue cards include:
- Ride operators and attendants
- Arcade workers
- Children’s activity operators
- Costumed of roving entertainers
- Photographers

Roles that generally will not require a blue card include food vendors, ticketing staff, cleaners, maintenance crews, administration staff and others not undertaking regulated work with children.
If you or your staff are affected, apply for a blue card before 20 September 2026 to continue working. Organisations should also review their obligations, identify who requires a blue card, and register for the free Organisation Portal to manage and link employees.
