Where Queensland Sport Began
Queensland’s sporting story began long before stadiums, high-performance pathways and elite competitions. It started in local clubs, regional communities, school ovals, surf lifesaving beaches and community halls, where volunteers, families and sporting pioneers laid the foundations of the vibrant sporting culture we know today.
Over generations, Queensland has produced some of Australia’s most celebrated sporting figures. The QSport Hall of Fame and Legends recognise those who have reached the pinnacle of achievement and left an enduring impact on sport, including icons such as Dawn Fraser AC MBE, Wally Lewis AM, Susie O’Neill OAM and Kieran Perkins OAM. Their achievements continue to inspire future generations of Queensland athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers.
Today, that legacy continues as Queenslanders across the state contribute to a sporting sector that is stronger, more inclusive and more successful than ever before.
Celebrating Those Who Make Sport Possible
Last year’s Queensland Sport Awards & Hall of Fame Induction marked a significant milestone, celebrating 30 years of recognising excellence across Queensland sport. The event honoured the athletes, coaches, administrators, officials, volunteers and organisations whose contributions continue to strengthen communities and inspire participation.
Among those recognised were Sport Administrator of the Year Joshua Pascoe, Coach of the Year Michael Maguire and Official of the Year Carlos Lakerdis. Community sport was represented through the dedication of Volunteer of the Year Christopher Sarquis, while athletes including Kaylee McKeown OAM, Callum Simpson OAM PLY, Gout Gout and Ben Wenzel showcased the exceptional talent emerging from Queensland.
A Sector Continuing to Thrive
These stories reflect a sector that continues to grow and evolve. Participation is increasing, pathways are expanding and sporting organisations are embracing new opportunities while meeting emerging challenges. Across Queensland, volunteers are building stronger communities, administrators are strengthening governance, officials are upholding the integrity of competition and athletes are setting new standards of performance.
Together, they represent the heartbeat of Queensland sport.

QSport is proud to announce that nominations are now open for the 2026 Queensland Sport Awards.
The Awards provide an opportunity to recognise the individuals, teams and organisations making an outstanding contribution to sport throughout Queensland. Whether through elite performance, community leadership, coaching excellence, officiating, administration or volunteer service, the Awards celebrate the people whose dedication continues to shape the future of Queensland sport.

Save-the-date for the 2026 Queensland Sport Awards & Hall of Fame Induction, to be held on 26 November 2026.
The event will bring together athletes, coaches, officials, administrators, volunteers, government representatives, sporting organisations and industry leaders from across the state to celebrate excellence and honour a new class of Hall of Fame inductees.
More than an awards evening, it is a chance for the Queensland sporting community to come together, celebrate achievements, recognise those who make sport possible and be inspired by the stories that continue to define our state’s sporting identity.
